England are new European men's amateur team champions

England succeeded Scotland as European men's amateur team champions at Osterakers Golf Club, Sweden.
They beat Sweden 4.5 to 2.5 in today's final after losing both the morning foursomes.
The English team put in a brilliant singles performance to win four and halve the remaining tie and pull the fat out of the fire.
The inspiration came from Tommy Fleetwood who beat Jesper Kennegard, a team-mate of James Byrne at Arizona State University, by 2 and 1 in the top singles tie.
Then British boys champion of 2009, Tom Lewis, won a tight one on the 18th green against Nils Floren.
Laurie Canter won comfortably, 6 and 4, against Pontus Widegren and Eddie Peppe4rell was a 4 and 3 winner over David Lingmerth.
Chris Paisley and Henrik Norlander halved their match but whether they played the full 18 holes or stopped because England had a winning lead in the match, is not clear at the time of writing.
Scotland, who failed to qualify for the top grade on their title defence, finished on a low note with "only" 10th ranking.
With James Byrne and Ross Kellett losing the top two singles, Scotland were well beaten, 4-1, by France in the ninth place play-off.
In the European boys' team championship at Klassis Golf Club, Istanbul in Turkey, the Scots finished on a high note with a 4.5 to 0.5 win over Portugal. That earned them a final ranking of 11th in Europe.
