Latimer shoots a 63 to grab halfway

lead in Sutherland Chalice

Recent winner of the East of Scotland Open golf tournament, Markinch's Peter Latimer (St Andrews New) is hot on the trail of another victory in a Scottish Golf Union 72-hole Order of Merit event.
This time it's the Sutherland Chalice at Dumfries and Galloway Golf Club.
Peter, who reached the last eight of last year's Scottish amateur championship at Royal Troon and who has spent the last four years playing in US college golf events as a student at Guilford College, Greensboro, North Carolina, shot a brilliant seven-under-par 63 in the second round to be the halfway leader on three-under-par 137.
On a wet day when the second round was delayed until some of the worst rain-affected greens had been swept clear of excess water, Latimer, pictured by Cal Carson Golf Agency, who had seven birdies and not a single bogey, ended it a shot ahead of Sam Binning (Ranfurly Castle) who had rounds of 70 and 68 for 138.
Forty players with 36-hole tallies of 147 or better qualified for Sunday's final two rounds.
