Carnegie Shield tournament at Royal Dornoch

Shoulder injury forces Owens to
concede tie to holder Latimer

By ROBIN WILSON
Most disappointed man at Royal Dornoch was American George Owens who had to conceede his second round match to the holder, Peter Latimer (St Andrews New) in the Carniegie Shield tournament.
Seventy year old Owens, who quailified in second place after shooting his age in round two, injured his shoulder just four holes into his game against Latimer, allowing the Fifer to progress into the semi-finals at the expense of Geoff Carter (Royal Mid Surrey) whom he beat in the quarter finals on the final hole.
Latimer now meets the sole surviving home member, Ian Rennie, in the first semi final, Rennie putting out former winner, Neil MacDonald (Muckhart) in the last eight on the 17th green .
Andrew Biggadike (US) is the lone former winner through to the last four. He recovered from one behind against Inverness's John Forbes to birdie the 17th and also win the final hole to win by two holes and meet John Miller (Gullane) in the other semi final.
