St Albans boy wins play-off for
Scottish Under-14 title
Just like the Scottish Under-16 boys' title the previous day, the Scottish Under-14 boys' championship, sponsored by Loretto School Golf Academy, played at the same North Berwick venue, the Glen Golf Club, went over the Border.
This time it went south to St Albans where Nick Ward is a member of the Redbourn club and Under-14 champion of Hertfordshire. He has three of a handicap.
But give Anthony Blaney from the Liberton club, just south of Edinburgh, for making a fight of it.
Ward and Blaney tied on one-under-par 69 - and, at the end of the day, they had to put their golf shoes on again and contest a sudden-death play-off.
But it certainly wasn't sudden death. It lasted four holes before Ward won it and the championship with a birdie. The English 13-year-old holed a 35ft putt to win the gold medal and the title.
Bronze medallist in third place on 70 was Ewan Scott from St Andrews.
The Gibson Trophy for the leading Under-12 boy went to James Wilson (Hilton Park) with a 79.
