Webster's bogey-bogey finish
misses Glenmuir cut by two
FROM RON MARSHALL, PGA PRESS OFFICER
The challenge of Irvine's Jim McKinnon hit the buffers somewhat today at Moortown, Leeds as the Glenmuir PGA Professional Championship reached the halfway stage.
The Ayrshire pro had to sign for a four-over 75, comprising five bogeys and a solitary birdie, in sharp contrast to his opening 69 on Monday.
That leaves him five shots off the lead, shared by Welshman Andrew Barnett and Tees-sider Graeme Bell on two-under 142.
"I just couldn't get going. The wind was a bit troublesome early in the round, but really it was just one of those days when very little goes right for you," said McKinnon.
Carluke's Craig Ronald joined McKinnon on that mark with a fine 70, also for a 144 aggregate.
As he did on the opening day, Ronald was on top for the first 12 holes, without a shot dropped. Three birdies and two bogeys completed a round that still leaves room for optimism.
Edzell professional Alastair Webster bogeyed the last two holes - and failed by two shots to beat the cut.
Webster, a former winner of this event several years ago when it had a different sponsor, birdied the 11th and 15th and looked set to qualify despite an opening round of seven-over 78.
But, needing a par-par finish for a 70 and the "safety mark" of 148, he dropped a shot at both holes and finished with a 72 for 150.
Anthony Caira (Kirkcaldy) did make it right on the limit with a pair of 74s for 148.
