Alastair Forsyth qualifies for US
Open debut at Torrey Pines
On the day he was left as Scotland's only player in the world's top 100 - after nearly 18 years Colin Montgomerie is no longer there - Alastair Forsyth tonight earned himself a first trip to the United States Open.
The 32-year-old Glaswegian finished joint top with Ross Fisher when 42 players did battle in the European qualifier at Walton Heath for seven spots at Torrey Pines next week.
Also successful were Fisher's fellow Englishmen Robert Dinwiddie, Phillip Archer and Ross McGowan, Frenchman Thomas Levet and Swede Johan Edfors, but 48-year-old amateur Gary Wolstenholme lost out in a play-off for the second time in three years and Paul McGinley and Rory McIlroy did not make it through either.
Only last Saturday Forsyth five-putted from 12 feet during the Wales Open at Celtic Manor, but it was a different story in the 36-hole event.
