WHO'S GONNA BE SECOND TO
'TIGER' HUTCHEON AT ELGIN?

By COLIN FARQUHARSON
Monifieth's Ian Hutcheon is the Tiger Woods of the burgeoning Scottish over-55 men's amateur golf circuit.
He doesn't win every tournament he plays in ... it just seems like it to the rest of the field.
If there were any betting on the 2008 Scottish senior open amateur stroke-play championship which tees off over Elgin Golf Club's Hardhillock course tomorrow - which there isn't - "Hutch" would be odds on to retain the title.
The former Walker Cup player has been a plus-rated player - +2 is his handicap - for longer than he can remember and he has already won the Scottish seniors title in 2003 (Glasgow Gailes), 2004 (Alyth) and last year at Drumpellier.
The newly-formed Scottish Seniors Golfing Society last year set up, with the blessing of the Scottish Golf Union, a circuit of open tournaments for the over-55s last year with an Order of Merit.
Guess who won it - Ian Hutcheon, of course!
This week's 54-hole tournament at Elgin is the first counting event for the 2008 SGU Seniors Order of Merit.
Incidentally, Hutch also won last year's North of Scotland Seniores Open and the East of Scotland equivalent.
A field of 137 will tee off on Tuesday and play one round on each of the first two days over a par-69, 6,449yd course which is a perfect length for most seniors but is probably on the short side for a man of Ian Hutcheon's undiminished prowess.
The leading 40 after 36 holes will qualify for Thursday's final 18 holes.
