SCOTS OUT OF THE HUNT IN
AUSTRALIAN STROKE-PLAY
Scots John Hempstock and Stephen Speirs were lying joint 82nd and 106th respectively with one round to go in the Australian men's open amateur stroke-play championship at Royal Adelaide and Grange golf clubs.
Former Scottish boys' match-play champion Hempstock from Dumfries scored 75, 75 and 78 for a 10-over-par tally of 228 - four better than Australia-based Speirs who scored 75, 76 and 83 for 232.
Obvously, they have no chance of making the leading 32 players after 72 holes, who will automatically go forward to contest the Australian men's open amateur match-play championship at Royal Adelaide.
Australian Josh Younger leads the field at seven-under-par 211. He is four shots ahead of English Walker Cup player Daniel Willett, who tops the R&A World Amateur Rankings at the moment.
