SCOTS SURVIVE HALFWAY CUT IN
AUSTRALIAN CHAMPIONSHIP


Australian-based Scot Stephen Speirs and former Scottish boys' match-play champion John Hempstock (Dumfries & Galloway) survived the halfway cut in the Australian men's open amateur golf championship at Royal Adelaide and The Grange golf clubs.
Speirs shot 73 and 76 for four-over-par 149 to be lying in joint 44th place in a field of 292. Hempstock had a pair of 75s for 150 to be in joint 57th position. Players with totals of 152 or better qualified for the final two rounds of stroke-play.
Three Australians, Matthew Griffin, Josh Younger and Michael Foster are leading on four-under-par 141.
England's Dale Whitnell is tied for fourth place on 142 with scores of 69 and 73.
