Oldcorn turns clock

back to lead Northern Open qualifiers

Former PGA champion Andrew Oldcorn turned the clock back a few years to produce a five-under-par round over the testing Kilmarnock Barassie links to lead the qualifiers for the Northern Open golf championship at the nearly new Spey Valley course, Aviemore from May 13 to 16.
Oldcorn, pictured above, playing out of King's Acre, started with an eagle and after dropping a shot at the second, he birdied the eighth and ninth to turn in three-under-par 33. A birdie at the 10th was cancelled out by a bogey at the 12th, but he finished as he had started - on a high - with birdies at the 17th and 18th for 34 home.
Four players tied for second place on 70 - Ian Campbell (unattached), former Walker Cup player Lindsay Mann (Carnoustie), past Scottish boys' match-play champion Lee Harper (Archerfield Links) and Jamie Anton (Murrayshall).
Anton looked right out of the picture when he turned in 39 but he came home in a blistering 31 with an eagle 3 at the 12th and birdies at the 13th, 14th and 16th.
