goes to play-off
His victory in this second event of the Celtic Pro Tour sees him move to second place in the order of merit behind the winner of the season’s opening event, Alex Smith (Bavaria Holland Beer/ Pyle & Kenfig).
Smith finished joint second at Pennard, alongside Matthew Dearden (vale-hotel.com).
Richard Jones (Pennard), taking part in his first event, was the leading amateur, two further strokes behind.
Constable’s one-under-par round of 70 on the Gower course earned him the £750 first prize.
“We were delighted that Pennard agreed to host this event, and are very grateful to the club and its members for their support. We look forward to returning in 2009”, said Rhydian Thomas, tour director
The tour now moves to the North-east of Scotland for its third event of 2008, as Murcar Links again hosts the Grampian Open on Monday and Tuesday, April 28 and 29.
Last year’s inaugural Grampian Open at the same course was won by former Wales and Portuguese amateur champion and Walker Cup squad member, David Price (Aberdare).
Golfers can still join the Celtic Pro Tour, and entry to the Grampian Open is £149 for professionals and £99 for amateurs with a scratch handicap or better.
Prize money will depend on the size of the entry. A field of 40 professionals will guarantee a fund of £5,525 of which the winner will receive £2,000, and runner up £1,000. The top 25% in the field win money. A voucher will also be available to the leading amateur. If the field is less than 40 a pro rata prize fund will be offered.
Golfers wanting to enter are asked to contact tour director Rhydian Thomas on 07861 686568 or register online at http://www.celticpro.com/ by 5pm Saturday April 26.
