US TOUR TO NAME NORMAN AND COUPLES
AS PRESIDENT'S CUP CAPTAINS FOR 2009

The US PGA Tour will this week name Greg Norman and Fred Couples as captains for the President's Cup match at a San Francisco venue in October 2009.
Norman, a two-time Open champion, and Couples, the 1992 Masters winner, were two of the US Tour’s top drawing cards before the emergence of Tiger Woods.
They take over the President's Cup reins from Gary Player on the International side, and Jack Nicklaus on the U.S. team. Player and Nicklaus were captains each of the last three meetings, and Nicklaus once before that.
The nomination of Greg Norman and his acceptance would seem to indicate the end of the "war" between the Australian and the US PGA Tour, which dates back to Norman's attempt to launch a world tour BEFORE Tom Finchem, the US PGA Tour commissioner, unveiled the present World Championship series.
The U.S. leads the series 5-1-1.
“Freddie will be an ideal captain because the players love him and will love playing for him,” said Ian Baker-Finch, four times an International assistant captain. “It will be great for the event having a low-key, casual Freddie.
The 2009 President's Cup will played at Harding Park Golf Club, San Francisco from October 8 to 11 next year.
