GOLF SEASON BECKONS
FOR ONE AND ALL

For the county golfers, it's around a month till the opening medals tee off at the local golf clubs, heralding the new 2008 golf season. For golfers not content with their own clubs' fixture lists, there are numerous fixtures throughout Scotland..
Clackmannanshire golfers are well provided for. The county golf union has produced its usual fixture card (available at golf clubs) detailing major fixtures in the six clubs, along with the county events.

The popular county events are the spring, summer and autumn meetings (entry fee £8 ) and the two-round county championship (entry £12) for the elite golfers. Entry fees are very reasonable when compared with present day green fees and there is always the chance of a prize. Entry sheets are posted in local clubs well in advance of the competitions

April 26 -SPRING MEETINGS (Tulliallan and Braehead).
May 4 - BOYS' CHAMPIONSHIP (Tillicoultry).
May 24 - SUMMER MEETINGS (Alloa and Dollar).
July 20 - COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP (Dollar).
August 23 - AUTUMN MEETING (Braehead).

The County card contains another 70 or so fixtures with various opens, invitations, senior and junior events.

CLACKMANNAN COUNTY GOLF DINNER

To celebrate the achievements of Callum Macaulay and Scott Borrowman, the county golf union organised at dinner at Alloa Golf Club. The last county dinner was scheduled in the early 1970s, but it had to be cancelled due to the miners' strike at that time.
County president Sam Kinnaird (Tillicoultry) was very pleased with the evening.
“We had around 70 attending,representing all the six clubs in the county. It was a special occasion, celebrating the achievements of Callum and Scott, and it was good to see some of the past achievers as well," said Sam.
"Callum will be presented with his two awards at the Scottish Golf Union Dinner at the end of March, and the county will be there to support him”
