STRENGTH IN DEPTH - THAT'S SCOTLAND TEAM FOR BOYS' QUADRANGULAR IN FRANCE,
SAYS COACH HENDERSON

SGU National Junior Coach Spencer Henderson is optimistic that Scotland is sending one of its strongest teams ever to contest the Boys' Quadrangular Tournament at St Cyprien in France from March 7 to 9.
“The team we are taking to this event has worked really hard over the winter months in preparation for their first tournament of the season. Michael Stewart and David Law especially are already displaying great early season form which hopefully they can demonstrate when the matches get underway next week," said Henderson.
“The host venue St Cyprien also seems to hold a special charm for Scotland, where the boys stormed to victory in 2006 in what turned out to be a great season for us. Winning the title for the first time in 11 years was a great feat and I am hoping that the boys this year can improve on their third place finish last year.
"They are ready for competition action now after a long winter, so I am keen that they go out there and perform to their best ability.”
Troon Welbeck player Michael Stewart, who finished third in the Boys Order of Merit title race and narrowly missed out on the Scottish boys' open stroke-play title at Cardrona after a three-hole play-off against James Byrne, will be a key player in the line-up.
Stewart, a member of the Quadrangular team last year when it was hosted in Rome, said: “We have a strong group of players going out to this event and the team spirit is very good. Warm weather training in Portugal was great preparation for this and I hope that all of our hard work pays off.”
Perthshire player Sam McLaren (King James VI) also returns for a second attempt on the title and he is joined by Kirkhill’s Paul Shields, winner of the early season Junior Tour event at Kingsbarns.
Shields had a good track record last year, whose taste for international action saw him outperform his fellow Scots at the Skandia Junior Open finishing as the leading Under-16 player in the field.
Hazlehead player David Law, pictured above, bronze medallist at the Scottish Boys' Under-16s stroke-play championship, and Bonnyton’s Andrew McLachlan – both of whom shared the silverware in the team event at the Saab International Belgium Open - also join the fray.
Sandyhills player Mark Bookless completes the six-strong team that will embark for France early next week, accompanied by Spencer Henderson and team captain Barrie Douglas.
The Boys' Quadrangular Tournament kick starts the boys' amateur golf season, and features teams from Sweden, Italy and France.
