Press Release

Celtic Pro Tour announces deals for members

Celtic Pro Tour membership costs £175 for new members if paid before the end of February or £199 from March 1. However, golfers who have previously joined the tour in 2006 or 2007 will have their membership fee held at last year’s price of £149.

“We spent a lot of time over the winter securing courses, re-negotiating with sponsors, deciding on the schedule, avoiding clashes where possible and structuring the pricing strategy based on the feedback we received from the golfers who played last year,” said tour director, Rhydian Thomas.

“What we also did in all this planning, was to forget to reward the golfers who had supported us in the first two years, by holding the membership fee at 2007 prices! This was clearly an oversight on our part, as we have been reminded by golfers that we had held the price from 2006 to 2007, and we are only too happy to repeat this offer this year.”

Previous members are urged to join by paying the £149 loyalty price by March 7.

The first event of the season will take place on April 1 and 2 with the 36-hole Pembrokeshire Open at Tenby Golf Club. The field is limited to 48 and entry is taken on a first-come-first-served basis.

The tour’s events organiser, Roger Maliphant said: “This season we have more 18-hole events than in previous years, and consequently we didn’t want to reduce the prize money from the 36 hole event rate, so the event entry is priced at £99 for 18-hole events, £149 for 36-hole events and £199 for 54-hole events. Non members will have to pay an additional £65 temporary membership fee to enter events, on top of the standard entry fee.

“By doing this, we can also guarantee to pay the top 10 in each field, if each field has 40 pro golfers entering. This is something the professionals requested at the end last season.”

Professionals who are interested in becoming members of the tour should contact the Celtic Pro Tour on 07861 686568, or register online at www.celticpro.com. Alternatively, cheques payable to Celtic Golf Tours Ltd can be sent to the Celtic Pro Tour office at 15, Druids Close, Treorchy, RCT, South Wales, CF42 6LJ.

The scheduled Celtic Pro Tour Winter event today at St Mellons, the Leap Year Classic, has been postponed due to the ongoing work at the course. As a result, it has not been possible to get the course ready for this event so both the tour and the club hope to stage it later in the main season.

The Celtic Pro Tour comprises three satellite tours – the expanded Dragon Tour which involves 11 tournaments in Wales, and the Thistle and Shamrock Tours in Scotland and Ireland respectively, with four events between them.
