Don't look for lots of Scots getting through to the match-play stages of the Spanish men's open amateur championship at Golf Platja de Pals, Gerona this week.
Only the leading 32 players will go forward after two qualifying rounds and the projected cut-off point is 146.
Some doubt about whether the par is 72 or 73. The Spanish Federation couples a "slope rating figure" along with a "par of 73. Paul Betty (Hayston), pictured right, is the best placed Scot in joint fifth place on 71 - three shots off the first-day pace set by a Frenchman and a Spaniard.
Gavin Dear from Murryahsall is one of a cluster on 72.
Glenn Campbell (Blairgowrie) is on 73 but, according to the Spanish Federation website, below the cut-off point for the top 32, which would seem to suggest that it will be a card countback to split ties after Thursday's second qualifying round rather than a sudden-death play-off.
