WELSHMAN JOHNSON LYING SECOND IN
US NATIONWIDE TOUR EVENT

Mention the US Nationwide Tour to a follower of Scottishgolfview.com and the name "Martin Laird," immediately springs to mind.
But there is at least one other Brit playing on America's No 2 male pro tour - and he is doing very nicely, thank you, this weekend.
He's Richard Johnson, a 35-year-old from Cardiff who graduated from Augusta State University and turned pro in 1995.
Richard is lying second with one round to go in the current Nationwide Tour event, the Utah Energy Solutions championship.
Johnson has shot 67, 64 and 67 for 15-under-par 198 and is two behind American Franklin Langham with 63, 67 and 66 for 196.
Johnson is currrently 26th on the Nationwide Tour money table with earnings this season of $142,043. If he could win this one, he would certainly qualify - alongwith Martin Laird - for automatic promotion to the US PGA Tour next season.
Laird is not doing so well, relatively speaking, in the current event, even though he is four under par after 54 holes. On the Nationwide Tour, if you go over par, then you tumble down the scoreboard immediately.
That's what happened to Martin with rounds of 68, 69 and 72 over the par-71 course. On 209, Martin is in joint 60th place because of that one-over-par third round.
Laird, a Nationwide winner this season, is in 11th place on the money table with earnings of $192,496.
Irishman Keith Nolan, another long-time resident of the United States since his college days, is also a Nationwide Tour regular. In this weekend's tournament, Keith has scored three 68s for nine-under-204 ... and is "only" lying joint 31st.
