Final SGU Order of Merit counting tournament

MACAULAY LEADS NEWLANDS
TROPHY FIELD BY TWO
STROKES AT LANARK

Scottish Golf Union Order of Merit leader Callum Macaulay (Tulliallan) holds a two-stroke lead from his closest rival in the points table, Wallace Booth (Comrie), at the halfway stage of the final counting 72-hole open of the season, the Newlands Trophy tournament at Lanark Golf Club.
Macaulay, pictured right, who beat Glenn Campbell (Blairgowrie) in a play-off to win the South-east District Open at West Linton last weekend, had rounds of 68 and 70 for a 36-hole tally of two-under-par 138.
Booth shares second place with Scottish youth champion Scott Borrowman (Dollar) on 140. Booth has had a pair of 70s, Borrowman a 69 and a 71.
Former Scottish boys’ match-play champion James White (Lundin), now a student at Stirling University) is in fourth place on his own on 141.
Teenager James Byrne (Banchory) won the 72-hole event last year with an aggregate of nine-under-par 271, his first SGU Order of Merit tournament win. It will be interesting to see how close to that total the 2007 winner gets.
A total of 40 players with aggregates of 151 or better qualified for Sunday's final two rounds.
Probably the biggest "name" among the non-qualifiers was this year's Scottish boys' match-play champion Paul Ferrier of the Baberton club. He had rounds of 74 and 80 for 154, to miss out by three shots.
