BRITAIN & IRELAND RALLY TO SHARE
MORNING WALKER CUP HONOURS
Great Britain & Ireland fought back from losing the opening foursomes to end the morning session on level terms at 2-2 against the United States on the first day of the 2007 Walker Cup
match at Royal County Down Golf Club, Newcastle in Northern Ireland.
The strong home pairing of Lloyd Saltman and Rhys Davies were beaten 4 and 3 by Americans Billy Horschel and Rickie Fowler in the first tie off the tee.
The second tie was halved between the all-Ireland pairing of Rory McIlroy and Jonathan Caldwell against Colt Knost and Dustin Johnson of the US.
England's John Parry and David Horsey put a point on the board for GB&I by beating Trip Kuehne and Kyle Stanley 2 and 1.
Another all-England pairing, Jamie Moul and Daniel Willett were one up on Webb Simpson and Jonathan Moore in the closing stages of the fourth and final tie but the match finished all square.
