NORTH BOYS’ DOUBLE WHAMMY
IN PLATFORM 2 EVENT
AT LETHAM GRANGE

North boys scored a double whammy in the Platform 2 junior 36-hole tournament over the Letham Grange No 2 course, the Glens, today when they provided the first and second in the individual event and also won the team trophy.
The first round was played in non-stop rain which delayed the pace of play so much that at the end of the day the tail-enders in the field of 36 finished in darkness.
Chris Gaitens (Fortrose & Rosemarkie), pictured right, won with very good scores of 67 and 69 for level par aggregate of 136.
He had three shots to spare over North team-mate Ian Allan (Hopeman) who had rounds of 71 and 68.
North-east filled the third and fourth spots through Tom Spencer (Inchmarlo) and Sam Strachan (Inverallochy). Tom, after a first-round 74, whistled round the second circuit in the day’s lowest score of 66 for 140.
Strachan was only one shot behind with 74 and 67 for 141. Sam’s second round gained him fourth place on a card countback.
North District were team champions with a total of 1453 (10 scores to count in each round form 12 players). North-east were runners-up with 1464 and Angus were third with 1528.
