NICOLL BREAKS CRUDEN BAY
RECORD WITH SEVEN-
UNDER-PAR 63

Callum Nicoll (Prestwick) shaved a shot off the Cruden Bay professional course record with a great round of seven-under-par 63 despite the windy conditions for the £6,000 VSA Tartan pro-am today (Friday).
Nicoll, pictured right, won the £1,000 top prize by five strokes with a bogey-free round which included an eagle 2 at the third and birdies at the second, sixth, eighth, 12th and 18th in halves of 31 and 32.
His figures over one of Scotland's classic links courses were:
OUT: 4 3 2 3 4 4 4 3 4 - 31.
IN: 4 3 3 5 4 3 3 4 3 - 32.
Colin Brooks set the original pro record mark of 64 some years ago, since when there have been changes to the course. Gordon Law (Uphall) set the "new" mark of 64 in winning the Northern Open at Cruden Bay in 2003.
Nicoll spreadeagled the field with Colin Gillies (Kingsfield) a distant runner-up on 68, one ahead of Fraser Mann (Musselburgh).
Callum also led the BIS Salamis trio of amateurs, Kenny Bennett (handicap 4), Doug Shiel (18) and Keith Beattie (8), to victory in the team event with a net score of 13-under-par 57.
