It was one of the best 36-hole Clackmannan county championship for many years - 55 of the top county players on an outstanding “cocktail” of golf. Included in the field of the 104-year-old event were teams of three from the six county clubs, competing for a place in the national final to be played at Glenbervie in late September.
Added to that were a small group of juniors testing their skills against the county best plus commendably (and with great loyalty to their home area), the Scottish elite duo of Callum Macaulay (British Amateur championship bronze medallist), and Scott Borrowman (Scottish youths champion).
Said County president Sam Kinnaird: “These two have put Clackmannan on the golfing map of Scotland and it is great to see them playing at Braehead to perhaps inspire others.”
And it was Macaulay who stole the show in a breathtaking display of brilliance with a 10-under- par 60 in his second round - good enough to take the title by five shots from fellow Tulliallan member Mark Crichton.
Third place went to home player Ross Benvie who saw his course record being eclipsed by 3 shots.
Callum’s 60 was his best ever score. It could have been 59 had he holed a 4 ft putt at the last. This is his second course record – he already has the Tulliallan one at 61, and is clearly rewriting the standards of Wee County golf.
Naturally Callum was highly delighted. “I am very pleased to have won the Clackmannanshire championship, having tried for a number of years, and I was really up for it today,” he said.

Macaulay's scorecard for his record 60 inclued two eagles, six birdies and 10 pars.
It read:

OUT: 3-4-3-2-4-3-5-3-2: 29 (against a par of: 4-4-4-4-4-3-5-3-4: 35)

IN: 4-3-4-3-2-4-3-4-4: 31 (against par of: 4-3-5-4-3-4-4-4-4: 35)

CLACKMANNAN COUNTY BOYS' LEAGUE

The Alva boys' team seem unstoppable in their golf league matches this year, and seem to have sewn up the title with two solid away wins - first a midweek substantial win against Alloa at -Schawpark, followed by an emphatic 4 1/2-1 1/2 victory against Tillicoultry.
“Who is going to be second?”
