DOUBLE WHAMMY FOR DAVID HIRD IN
NE DISTRICT SENIORS CHAMPIONSHIP
Murcar Links’ David Hird was not sure which gave him the most pleasure at Inverurie Golf Club today – beating his age by one with a scratch round of 71 or winning the North-east District seniors’ championship for the first time by three strokes.
“I thought I might have blown it by taking two shots to get out of a greenside bunker at the last and running up a double bogey 6,” said a delighted David whose son Keith was a Scotland amateur international and leading North-east player in the 1980s-90s.
“There are some very good senior players in the North-east, not least former Walker Cup player Sandy Pirie so it has made my day to beat Sandy and the rest by a few shots.”
David deviated from par at only three holes in his halves of 35 and 36. He had a bogey at the first, a birdie 3 at the ninth and that double bogey 6 at the last.
Runners-up on 74 were Alistair Eddie (Deeside) and Ally Fiddes (Murcar Links).
