HARRY TAKES SCOTTISH U-14 BOYS' TITLE
SOUTH OF THE BORDER TO WOBURN

The Scottish Under-14 boys’ golf championship, staged in association with the Loretto School Golf Academy, was won by England’s Harry Whittle on a very wet day at Brunston Castle Golf Club.
Whittle, the 13-year-old the Woburn junior club champion whose grandparents live at Mossdale, New Galloway, had a strong finish – birdieing the 15th and 18th – to win by two shots with a two-under-par score of 70.
Four-handicapper Harry had earlier birdies at the seventh, 11th and 13th in halves of 37 (one over par) and 33 (three under par). He had bogeys at the third, eighth and 14th.
Three boys finished next best on par 72 – Calum Stewart, who made the long trip to south Ayrshire from Brora, which is north of Royal Dornoch, Neil Beattie (St Andrews) and Gary Meechan (Dullatur).
Calum was awarded the runners-up silver medal for his inward half. He had an undistinguished outward tally of three-over 30 but came storming home in 33 with no bogeys and birdies at the 12th, 15th and 17th.
Neil Beattie also had a very good inward half of 34. He had birdies at the sixth, 10th, 13th and 16th.
Gary Meechan had halves of 36 with birdies at the third, fourth and 15th.
Ewan Scott won the award for the best performance by an Under-12 years boy. Ewan from St Andrews had a 73 to win the Gibson Trophy.
