SEAMUS SHOWS HIS POWER OVER HOME
COURSE IN IRISH YOUTHS' EVENT
Seamus Power, playing over his home course, led with a 68 at the end of the first round of the 72-hole Irish youths' open championship at West Waterford Golf Club today.
Power plays on the American college circuit as a student at East Tennessee State University and is a team-mate of former British boys champion Jordan Findlay from Fraserburgh.
Ross Kellett from Colville Park Golf Club, Motherwell was the leading Scot after one round. He had a 70 to be in third place.
The field play another round today with the qualifiers going on to the final two rounds on Friday.
The tournament has been a stepping stone to fame and fortune for several leading players who have won the title, mainly Ronan Rafferty but also Graeme McDowell.
Scots who have won the championship include Steven Young twice, Craig Everett and Craig Hislop.
