SCOTS PAIR ON THE HEELS OF LEADER IN IRISH
YOUTHS OPEN AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP
Seamus Power, playing over his home West Waterford course, cashed in on his local knowledge to establish a two-stroke lead at the halfway stage of the Irish youths' open amateur stroke-play championship at the south-east Ireland venue today (THU)
Power had rounds of 68 and 71 for a five-under-par tally of 139 to lead by two shots from a pair of Scottish challengers - new Scottish youths champion Scott Borrowman from Dollar and Zander Culverwell from the Dunbar club.
Borrowman and Culverwell had matching rounds of 71 and 70 for 141.
Former British boys' champion Jordan Findlay from Fraserburgh, who plays on the American college circuit in the same East Tennessee State University team as tournament leader Power, is lying joint fifth on level par 144 with scores of 73 and 71.
Only those with aggregates of 151 or better survived the cut to play the final 36 holes on Friday.
Peter Latimer (St Andrews New) and Robert McKnight (Barassie) missed out by a single shot on 152. Latimer had scores of 79 and 73, McKnight a pair of 76s.
Philip McLean (Peterhead) failed to make it with 78 and 76 for 154.
