NO PLAY POSSIBLE AT ALWOODLEY THIS MORNING

No play has been possible so far on the fourth day of the Ladies British open amateur championship at Alwoodley Golf Club, Leeds.
It has not stopped raining since early Wednesday afternoon and very heavy rain overnight made the course look like a paddy field this morning.
The first tee was awash and water was lying several inches deep on the walkways round the clubhouse.
The eight third-round ties should have teed off from 8.30am but tournament director Fraser Munro has officially suspended play until further notice.
The championship is due to finish on Saturday with the semi-finals in the morning and the 18-hole final on Saturday afternoon.
The big headache for the organising Ladies Golf Union is whether to extend the tournament into Sunday. This would upset the flights booked by all the international players left in the championship.
When a similar course-flooded situation developed a few years ago in the British girls championship, the LGU abandoned the tournament rather than extend it to Sunday because of the booked flights situation.
