IRISH EYES ARE SMILING AS JOHN DWYER MAKES
RUNNING IN GLENMUIR CLUB PROS' EVENT
From RON MARSHALL

The Scottish challenge continued to fizzle out as the third round of the Glenmuir Club Professional Championship moves into its final round at Royal Porthcawl.
As Ireland’s John Dwyer threatens to rack up a wire-to-wire victory, which would make him the first golfer from the Irish republic to take the title since it was inaugurated in 1973, the man leading the six Scots who made the cut is former Scottish PGA champion, Craig Ronald. He added a 73 to his opening 74-71 for 218, nine shots off the lead.
Making a return to competitive play this season after two back operations is Nigel Scott-Smith, who’s been pro at Palacerigg in Cumbernauld for the last seven years. His 72, along with veteran Alastair Webster from Edzell, was the best Scottish score of the third round. Leading aggregates:
209 J Dwyer (Ashbourne) 66 72 71
210 A Barnett (North Wales DR) 66 75 69
212 R Sadler (Killiow) 67 75 70, C Clark (Moor Hall) 69 71 72
213 G Brown (Ganton) 74 69 70, A Sherborne (Kendleshire) 68 74 71, J Bevan
