MATT ENJOYS GLOSS FINISH IN LA MANGA
FOOTBALLERS' CLASSIC

Former Southampton and England footballer Matt Le Tissier fought off the challenge of 38 former professional footballers to win the Addison Lee Footballers’ Golf Classic at La Manga Club.
Goalkeeping legend Pat Jennings had set the early pace on the first two days of the competition but a strong final round from Le Tissier saw him take the coveted crystal trophy by one point.
Le Tissier, who plays off six, said: “I’m absolutely thrilled and delighted to have finally won this event after trying for five years.”
The tournament was the 11th year Barwell Events has organised the competition and once again 40 teams competed in front of the Sky Sports cameras.
Ex-Arsenal and Ireland defender, Terry Mancini, now Barwell’s sports events director, said: “We’ve been organising the Footballers’ Classics for a long time now and it’s amazing how it seems to get better every year.
“Some great golf was played and everyone involved has had a terrific time.”
The team event was also won by a single point. The Goodies, made up of Alan Lindsey (handicap two), Mark Seagraves (eight), and Claire Fensome (eight), amassed 257 points over the 54 holes beating the Property Boys into second place.
The runners-up are now considering changing their name to The Bridesmaids as this was their fourth consecutive second-place finish in the event.
