British men's amateur championship at Royal Lytham

SALTMAN AND MOULE MAKE PROGRESS
BUT LEADING QUALIFIER GOES OUT

FROM THE R&A WEBSITE
Walker Cup player Lloyd Saltman and R&A World Amateur Golf Ranking No 2 Jamie Moul have both safely negotiated the third round of the Amateur Championship at Royal Lytham & St Annes.
But leading qualifier David Horsey lost by two holes to Jason Shufflebotham.
Horsey(Styal) was one up after 15 but Shufflebotham (Prestatyn), an 18-year-old who reached the semi-finals of the 2006 Welsh Amateur, birdied the final three holes to take the match.
Shufflebotham holed from 15 feet at the last.
Saltman (Craigielaw) had a one hole advantage at the turn, but lost the 10th when he drove into a bunker on the left. He was gifted the 11th when his opponent, experienced French player Alexandre Kaleka, knocked his tee shot into trees.
Saltman had a tap-in birdie after a seven-iron tee shot at the short 12th, and won the 14th with a par four.
Despite hitting his tee shot into a bunker at the 15th he holed a 20-foot putt for par and held on for a 3 and 2 victory.
"He's a tough opponent and I'm pleased with that result," said Saltman, who was three under par for the 16 holes played.
Jamie Moul (Stoke by Nayland), who led The R&A World Amateur Golf Ranking for many weeks earlier in the season, won a close fought match with Australian Rohan Blizard by 3 and 1. Square after 14 holes, Moul won the next with a par four, increased his lead at the 16th and holed from 30 yards off the green at the 17th.
"I was just trying to knock it up close and it trundled in. I was quite lucky," he said.
In this afternoon's fourth round Saltman will play Chris Wood (Long Ashton), a 2 and 1 winner against Scottish student Gordon Yates (Hilton Park) and Moul will face another Scot Ross Kellet (Colville Park) who beat Matt Allen (North Hants) by 3 and 2.
