BAD DAY FOR THE YOUNG SCOTS IN JAPAN

Scotland's squad of four had a collective bad third day in the Toyota world boys' team golf championship at Chukyo Golf Club, Nagoya in Japan.
None of the 14 teams had a worse score than Scotland's mediocre 222 for the third round - 10 shots more than their first and second day team scores.
Only bottom of the table Singapore also scored 222 today (Thursday).
The Scots - James Byrne (Banchory), Michael Stewart (Troon Welbeck), Paul Ferrier (Baberton) and Shaun McAllister (Craigielaw) - have slumped to 12th in the table with one day to go.
Their 54-hole aggregate of 646 is 30 shots behind leaders Sweden who are one shot ahead of the defending champions, Norway.
On the first two days, one Scotland boy scored in the 60s - par of the course is 71 - but in the third round, the lowest score the Scots could muster was a one-over 72 from Michael Stewart. Shaun McAllister, Paul Ferrier and James Byrne each returned a four-over 75.

Byrne was one over par when he eagled the seventh and birdied the 18th to get to two under par for the day. Then he was in the water at the ninth to double-bogey the hole and turn in level par.
James seemed to have lost a bit of confidence after that and he bogeyed the 10th, 11th, 15th and 17th for a four-over-par 75.
Stewart parred the first 14 holes before going out of bounds with his drive at the 15th. He did well to escape with just one shot dropped. At the 16th Michael got his only birdie of the round.
Stewart is joint 17th in the individual standings with a three-round total of two-under-par 211. Byrne comes next in joint 22nd place on 213. McAllister is tied 50th on 224 and Ferrier is 55th in the field of 56 with a total of 232. Ferrier had a double bogey at the 10th.
