JAMES BYRNE LEAPS 132 PLACES IN
WORLD RANKINGS TO NO 40

When I was away at the Ladies British open amateur championship at Alwoodley, Leeds - which coincided with the monsoon season in central Yorkshire - there were some significant moves in the R&A World Men's Amateur Rankings.
None of the morning newspapers seem to be interested in giving weekly updates on the rankings ... but I am. So here we go (a week late):
Englishman Jamie Moul (Stoke by Nayland) regained the No 1 spot from American Jamie Lovemark.
English Walker Cup veteran Gary Wolstenholm, winner of the European mid-amateur championship by a big margin, has gone up two places to No 10.
James Byrne from Banchory, with his second place to Kevin McAlpine in the Scottish men's open amateur stroke-play championship at Royal Dornoch, has made the father and mother of all leaps up the table ... 132 places to the No 40 ranking. Great stuff, James!
Kevin McAlpine will be a bit miffed thought that he won the tournament - and he has gone up only seven places to No 100.
Wallace Booth from Comrie and, for the past four years, Augusta State University, had improved by 23 places to 132.
