ANGEL CABRERA FROM ARGENTINA WINS
UNITED STATES OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP

Angel Cabrera from Argentina exceeded even his own expectations by winning a gruelling US Open with a five-over-par total of 285 at Oakmont Golf Club, Pennsylvania.
Cabrera outlasted them all, even Tiger Woods, to win the championship for his first major title. With a one-under-par 69 in his final round, Cabrera finished at five over, edging Woods and Jim Furyk, both former US Open champions, by one shot.
"I never thought this was possible," Cabrera said. "I feel great. It's a great moment for me, I can't believe it."
He continued: "I watched all the majors on TV when I was a kid and I never thought I would be here at this moment. It is very difficult to describe this moment.
"Probably tomorrow, when I wake up with this trophy beside me in my bed, I will realize that I have won the US Open."
Both Woods and Furyk tried to drive the green at the 306-yard 17th but ran into trouble. Furyk bogeyed the hole from the rough to the left of the green and Woods was unable to get up and down for birdie from a greenside bunker.
"I had to hit a three wood and I was trying to put the ball at the flag or to the right," Woods said of his tee shot at 17.
"They haven't watered that green at all and it's all baked out, it's the hardest hole on the golf course."
It wasn't a bad tournament for English players. Nick Dougherty, the first round leader, finished joint seventh on 290, closing with a 71. Paul Casey and Justin Rose tied for 10th place on 291. Casey and Rose both signed off with 76s.
