RONNIE AND ROBERT TOP SCOTS
IN PGA SENIOR CLUB PROS’
CHAMPIONSHIP

Kemnay Golf Club professional Ronnie McDonald and Robert Webster, now retired, headed the Scottish challenge in the first round of the 54-hole PGA Senior Club professional championship at Northamptonshire County Golf Club today.
Both hit the five-over-par 75 mark to be sharing 10th place, six shots behind leader Donald Stirling.
Ronnie, pictured right, had no birdies on his scorecard which had a double-bogey 6 at the fifth and single shots dropped at the 11th, 12th and 18th.
Robert did have a birdie, at the eighth, and was only one over par with six holes to play but tired a little and bogeyed the 13th, 14th, 16th and 18th.
Former British boys champion Garry Harvey from Perth had a 76 which included a little bit of everything. He finished in grand style with an eagle 3 at the 507yd 18th and had a birdie 2 at the short 15th. But he also had a triple bogey 7 at the 17th, and a pair of double bogey 6s at the first and 11th
The field will be cut to the leading 40 players and ties after the second round. The winner will receive £4,750 from a total prizefund of £35,000 and also be exempt from qualifying for the Scottish Seniors Open at Dalmahoy. The top 20 finishers will be exempt from qualifying for September's PGA seniors championship at Stoke by Nayland.
