PETER WHITEFORD WINS TAMSEL TOUR
EVENT BY FIVE STROKES


Fifer Peter Whiteford (Wellsgreen) was an impressive five-shot winner of the £2,000 first prize in the Tamsel Tour 36-hole event at Withington Golf Club, Didsbury near Manchester today.
Whiteford had rounds of 66 and 67 for an 11-under-par total of 133.
Whiteford, whose older brother Stewart won the 1996 Scottish boys' match-play title, has made some appearances on the European Challenge Tour this year.
Runner-up to Peter was PGA Cup player Paul Wesselingh who was bidding to become the first man to win three Tamsel Tour events in a row. Paul had 68 and 70 for 138.
The only other entries from Scotland, apart from Whiteford, in the field of 80 were Danny Kirk and David Pyott, both entered from St Andrews.
