Elliot Saltman's professional career is off and running after he shot a final round of four-under-par 68 to tie for third place in the PGA EuroPro Tour's Wensum Valley International Open near Norwich today.
The Craigielaw rookie pro collected £1,866 - not a fortune but enough to give Elliot the encouragement and confidence he needs at this stage of his new career.
Elliot , pictured right, had looked "down among the dead men" after rounds of 73 and 73 but he looked a different, more positive player in the third session and finished on two-under-par 214.
Irishman Colm Moriarity (Glasson Golf Hotel) did not quite run away with the £10,000 first prize as had looked like happening after rounds of 68 and 70 gave him a commanding lead going into the final day.
Moriarity's plundering of birdies stopped and he had to settle for a par 72 and a six-under-par total of 210.
That gave Colm a two-shot victory from one-time Walker Cup place contender, Englishman Neil Walker. Neil scored 74, 69 and 69 to win £5,000 for claiming the runner-up spot.
Jay Scott, the relatively unknown Scot - no home town listed, fell like a stone down the leaderboard with a closing round of 81 after 73 and 72 in the first two rounds. With a total of 226, Jay finished 46th and went home with a cheque for £220, barely enough to pay his hotel and petrol money.
The only other Scot to make the final day, Stephen Lamb (Broomieknowe) had an even worse day that Jay - an horrific 83 for 231 to earn £202.
