LAWRIE STILL STRUGGLING TO GET A
DECENT SCORE ON EUROPEAN TOUR
Paul Lawrie's run of poor scores continued in the first round of the Telecom Italian Open at Castello di Tolcinasco, Milan today.
The 1999 Open champion from Aberdeen starts the second round with only a handful of players behind him on the scoring table. Paul had a five-over-par 77 which included two double bogeys and a triple bogey in an outward 42. But for birdies at the first and ninth, Lawrie would have just about recorded his highest ever nine-hole total on the European Tour.
The course was not all that difficult, judging by some of the other scores. Joak Backstrom (Sweden), for instance, shot a 10-under-par 62 and that gave him only a one-stroke lead from Markus Brier (Austria).
