PATRICK BIRDIES LAST TO
WIN CALLAWAY CHALLENGE
AT CRAIGIELAW
Former Walker Cup player David Patrick from Edinburgh scored his first win on the Tartan Tour at Craigielaw today.
The Mortonhall man, pictured right, joint third overnight, swept past the faltering leaders with a second-round 69 for a total of nine-under-par 135 to win the £1,347 in the Callaway Challenge by one stroke.
Patrick, who has played the Challenge Tour, birdied the first and third before bogeying the sixth to turn in one-under-par 34.
A third birdie at the 11th put him on course for victory until he bogeyed the 16th. After a par at the penultimate hole, David birdied the last which, as events transpired, avoided a four-way play-off with David Orr (East Renfrewshire), Mark King (Kingsfield) and first-round leader Andrew Oldcorn (Kings Acre).
They finished joint second, one shot behind on 136 and each earned £1,077.
Oldcorn suffered a 10-shot slump in the course of two rounds. After an opening 64, Andrew was still level par for the day when he turned in 35 with birdies at the first and ninth but he then shed shots at the 10th, 12th, 15th and 16th.
Like Patrick, Oldcorn birdied the 18th, but for him it was to share second place.
