GARY GLITTERS … 35 YEARS ON IN
PGA SENIOR CLUB PROS' EVENT
It’s 35 years since Garry Harvey played in back-to-back British boys’ championship finals – losing the first but winning the second – but the Perth-born professional at Bearsden Driving Range has not forgotten how to turn on the style on occasion.
Garry will go into Friday’s third and final round of the PGA Senior Club professional championship at Northampton in joint second place, four shots behind Vienna-based Englishman Donald Stirling.
Harvey put together a brilliant round today of four-under-par 66 – easily the lowest round by anyone so far in the tournament – to improve by 10 shots on his first-day nightmare (one triple bogey and two doubles) for a two-round tally of two-over-par 142.
Harvey had a bogey-free round with birdies at the third, eighth, 15th and 18th.
Other Scots to qualify include Bill McColl (Thorpe Hall) and Ronnie McDonald (Kemnay) on 149. McColl had six bogeys but three birdies in a second-round 73 while McDonald had a double bogey 6 at the 14th after birdies at the third and 13th.
Bill Lockie (North Gailes) (151), Robert Webster (retired (152) and Derek Craik senior (Frilford Heath) (154) were other Scots to beat the cut at 154.
