DOUGHERTY LETS WINNING CHANCE SLIP
IN ITALIAN OPEN FINAL ROUND
England's Nick Dougherty let another victory chance slip through his hands with a poorish final round inward half to finish joint third in the weather-shortened, 54-hole Telecom Italian Open at Castello di Tolcinasco, Milna.
Victory went in the end to Spain's Gonzalo Fernandez-Castano who beat the Austrian, Markus Brier, at the second hole of a sudden death play-off after they had tied on 16-under-par 200, Gonzala after a final round 65 and Markus with a 68.
In contrast, Dougherty closed with a 70 for 201.
