BARRY HUME MISSES MANILA CUT BY ONE SHOT
Glasgow's Barry Hume failed by one shot to survive the halfway cut but fellow Scots Ross Bain and Simon Dunn made it through to the final two rounds of the Philippine Open at Wack Wack Golf & Country Club, Manila today.
In his second-round 75 for six-over-par 150, Hume had a triple bogey 7 at the first and dropped further shots at the fifth and ninth in a disastrous 41 to the turn. He raised his hopes with birdies at the 11th, 13th and 14th but a bogey at the 15th in 34 home was to prove a costly mistake.
Bain had a 72 for 145 to qualify with ease. He shook off the depressing effect of a double bogey at the first to birdie the third, 10th and 14th. A bogey at the 18th made little difference.
Simon Dunn had a 73 for 149. He came back from a bogey-bogey-bogey start from the second to the fourth to birdie the fifth, sixth and eighth. Another birdie at the 12th gave him a cushion for the closing holes but he needed it after bogeys at the 13th and 15th..
China's Liang Wen-Chong stayed on course for a first win on the Asian Tour with a 69 for a seven-under-par halfway total of 137 and a one-stroke lead.
