YATES SPREADEAGLES FIELD WITH A 64
GLASGOW player Gordon Yates spreadeagled the field with a seven-under-par round of 64 in the Standard Life Leven Gold Medal golf tournament over the Leven links in Fife today.
Yates, a member of Hilton Park Golf Club, led the star-studded field by five shots going into the second of four rounds over the weekend.
Gordon was sixth in the recent Cameron Corbett Vase 72-hole tournament at Haggs Castle.
Former Scotland youths champion Wallace Booth (Comrie), who returns to Augusta State University shortly to complete his four-year golf scholarship, was the next best on 69.
Stuart Graham (Blairgowrie) and Paul O’Hara (Colville Park), beaten finalist in the recent Scottish amateur championship at Nairn, were sharing third place with Robert McKnight (Barassie) on the 70 mark.
Defending champion George Murray (Earlsferry Thistle) had a 72.
New Scottish title-holder Kevin McAlpine (Alyth) did not have a very good morning. He shot an eight-over-par 79 and faced an uphill battle to survive the halfway cut.
