GORDON FINISHES JOINT SIXTH TO WIN £1,200
Former Scottish amateur champion Graham Gordon finished in joint sixth place in the Bovey Castle Championship – the latest event on the PGA EuroPro Tour – at Bovey Castle Golf Club, Dartmooor today.
The Aberdonian had rounds of 68, 73 and 71 for a two-over-par total of 212, which earned him £1,200.
Paul Doherty, the Welsh-based former Scottish boys’ match-play champion, had a disastrous last round of 83, which included a triple bogey 7 at the first and four later double bogeys in halves of 43 and 40. He plummeted to joint 31st place on 221 after earlier rounds of 70 and 68 set him up for a four-figure prize. Instead Paul collected £295.
Blairgowrie’s Colin Mitchell scored 68, 78 and 77 for 223.
Winner of the £10,000 first prize was Englishman Chris Hansen with 70, 64 and 73 for three-under-par 207. He won by two shots from compatriot Warren Bennett.
