PGA EUROPRO TOUR
GORDON AND MITCHELL JOINT SEVENTH
AFTER FIRST ROUND AT BOVEY CASTLE
Aberdonian Graham Gordon and Colin Mitchell from Blairgowrie were sharing seventh place on two-under-par 68 at the end of the first round of the £40,000 Bovey Castle Championship at Bovey Castle Golf Club, Dartmoor.
Gordon, Scottish amateur champion three years ago, is beginning to put together some consistent results on the PGA EuroPro Tour and he reached the turn in five-under-par 31 with an eagle 2 at the fourth and birdies at the first, seventh and 18th. Shots were dropped at the 13th 14th and 17th in an inward 37.
Mitchell had birdies at the ninth, 11th, 12th, 13th and 18th in halves of 34. He had bad run of bogeys at the 14th, 15th and 16th.
Only two other Scots are in the field of 130 - presumably Dartmoor is too far away for most of the regulars to make the journey.
Former Scottish boys' match-play champion Paul Doherty (Vale of Glamorgan) is sharing 23rd place on 70 while Robert Glendinning (Aylesbury), who has entered as a Scot, returned a nightmare 93 to be in joint 129th place.
Three Englishmen are setting the pace on four-under-par 66 - Kevin Harper (East Devon), Sean Whiffen (Enfield) and Matthew Woods (Donnington Cove).
Only the top 50 and ties at the end of today's second round will go forward to the third and final round.
