STANDARD LIFE LEVEN GOLD MEDAL
NEW CHAMPION KEVIN HEADS FIELD FOR
THIS WEEKEND'S BIG 72-HOLE EVENT
New Scottish amateur champion Kevin McAlpine from Alyth will make his first competitive appearance since his match-play triumph at Nairn in this weekend's Standard Life Leven Gold Medal.
McAlpine has never won a 72-hole SGU Order of Merit event although he came within a three-putt last green of making the breakthrough a few weeks ago in the Cameron Corbett Vase at Haggs Castle where he finished runner-up to Glenn Campbell (Blairgowrie).
George Murray (Earlsferry Thistle), winner of the Gold Medal 12 months ago, confirmed his liking for the Leven links when he won the Scottish champion of champions' title over the course at the start of the season.
It's a classy field, full of potential winners and contenders for places in the Scotland team to defend the men's home internationals championship at Frilford Heath early next month.
