NEWS FROM FUTURES TOUR

BRENDA MISSES OUT ON BIRDIE BONANZA

Belfast-born Brenda McLarnon had a poor inward half while most of the field were enjoying a birdie bonanza in the first round of the Duramed Futures Tour’s Lima Memorial Hospital Classic.

Some 57 players returned sub-par scores over the 5,992yd, par-72 course but Brenda slumped to a seven-over-par 79 despite reaching the turn in par 36.

Miss McLarnon played the American college circuit when she was a student at the College of Charleston, South Carolina.

Leading the field at Lost Creek Country Club, Lima in Ohio is 17-year-old rookie Song-Hee Kim from Seoul, South Korea.

Already a winner three times this season and the Futures Tour money-table leader, Song-Hee shot a seven-under-par 65 with halves of 31 and 34.
