TENNANT CUP PREVIEW

NO AUSSIES BUT QUALITY SCOTTISH

FIELD FOR WEEKEND 72-HOLE EVENT

Australians have won Glasgow Golf Club’s last two Tennant Cup open 72-hole tournaments at Glasgow Gailes and Killermont – but none has entered this weekend’s event.

Considering the British amateur championship has been on all week at Royal St George’s and the three-day Scottish youths championship began yesterday (Friday) at Mortonhall, the Tennant Cup field is a high quality one.

Scott Jamieson (Cathkin Braes), outright winner of the Craigmillar Park Open (72) and joint winner (with Craig Watson) of the 36-hole Edward Trophy over the Glasgow Gailes course in April, is top-ranked alongwith Walker Cup player Lloyd Saltman (Craigielaw). Both have a +4 handicap.

On +3 there are Wallace Booth (Comrie), John Gallagher (Swanston), Elliot Saltman (Craigielaw) and Keir McNicoll (Carnoustie).

West of Scotland Open winner Callum MacAulay (Tulliallan) is only one of a crop of very good players on the +2 bracket, including Scottish champion Glenn Campbell (Blairgowrie), Jonathan King (Glasgow), Paul O’Hara (Colville Park) and Bryan Fotheringham (Forres).
