WORLD BOYS' TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP

NORWAY PIP SWEDEN IN JAPAN

Norway pipped Sweden for the world boys' team golf championship in an all-Scandinavian finish that few would have predicted at the start of the 72-hole tournament at Chukyo Golf Club in Japan.

Norway totalled 832, one shot ahead of Sweden with the host nation third on 839.

The highly-rated Americans (852) could finish only fifth while England trailed in 12th of 15th on 872.

England peaked with a second-round team total of 208 – one of the best by any country during the tournament – but they fell away badly over the last two rounds. Tom Hesketh, who had a third-round 80, did not play the final round.

Norway’s Marius Thorp had the lowest individual aggregate of 17-under-par 271. He had rounds of 68, 71, 65 and 67 to finish five shots clear of Sweden’s Bjorn Akesson and Japan’s Naoto Nakanishi.

England’s best player of the week was Sam Hutsby with a one-over-par total of 289.
