Strathmore Junior Alex Simpson springs the surprise with an extra hole victory over Blairgowrie's Glenn Campbell in the Matchplay Quarter Final .
Alex birdied 14 to go one up, Glenn bounce back birdie at 15, but the 16th proved crucial with a regulation 4 from Alex, (who used a rescue off the tee to good effect the whole round) saw him back to 1 up when Glenn short right in 2 failed to get up and down.
Half in 3 at 17 and then a soft 4 at 18 by Glenn which was enough to force extra holes when a slightly tentative second from Alex came up short, and he took 3 to get down.
Glenn hit a disappointing iron on the extra, finishing well short and Right of the front bunker, and Alex putting the disappointment of 18 behind him hit a solid iron to the front edge of the green and two putted for the win.
Scott Michie 2 up on 17th tee, went through after James Barrett was long with his "have to make it close" tee shot.
Andy Jackson's (1 down on 18) pulled tee shot, long and left under a fairway tree, with bunker on line, no shot and inevitably he chipped big over the green. Ewan D Farquharson's safe 4 saw him through.
Local man David Simpson prevailed over Stuart Mckendrick but only again after an extra hole, his regulation 3 up the first was enough for the win on a hole which proved very tricky all day with the fickle winds.
Tomorrow's semi-finals tee off at 8am and 8.07 - Alex Simpson v Scott Michie and Ewan D Farquharson v David Simpson.
