By ALASDAIR MACGREGOR
Aberdeen businessman Nick Robson (Meldrum House) won the Scottish Seniors Golfing Society's match-play championship at Alyth Golf Club, Perthshire, beating Phil Dempsey (Tulliallan) by 4 and 2 in the final this afternoon.
In the morning semi-finals, leading qualifier Robson had beaten Robert Smith (Nairn) at the 19th and Dempsey beat John Fraser (Royal Burgess) 5 and 3.
Nick took control of the final early on, playing the first five holes in two under par to go three up. He also won the eighth where Dempsey had a very unlucky bounce off a sprinkler head into a bunker.
Phil reduced the deficit to two by winning the ninth and 10th, but Robson restored his four-hole advantage by winning the 11th and 12th. Dempsey won back the 13th but halves at the next two holes left Robson three up with three to play. He found the green in two at the par five 16th and closed the match with a two-putt birdie.
Peter Kinloch (Cardross) won the Super Seniors title by defeating Andrew Laird (Deeside) 2 and 1.
It was a close game decided by Kinloch birdieing the 16th and winning the difficult 17th with a par.
